no things but in ideas

Mallarmé famously admonished Degas by saying that poems are not made of ideas, they are made of words. In turn the conceptualists have refuted Mallarmé by making poems out of ideas.

Of course, the conceptualists are not making poems. They are making "texts." They have trained themselves to eat vapor for breakfast and want us to believe that the vapid hallucinations produced by their spiritual starvation diet are illuminating. They are not. They are little more than pseudo-intellectual farts and burps that cannot be sweetened by the tenured orifices from which they burst.
